Rice Village and West U. Communities Have a Specialty Emergency Room
There’s no place like home and the communities of Rice Village and West U. are the intentional home for Rice Emergency Room. We know the discerning families of these tight knit neighborhoods and understand the health and medical needs of our diverse population. It is the mission of Rice Emergency Room to provide world-class care in a personalized setting.
Why We Love West U.
One of the most sought-after areas in the Houston metropolitan area is the tree-lined West University neighborhood, which is located between Highway 59 and the 610 Loop. The neighborhood is popular with families and young professionals because it is home to Rice University and the pedestrian-friendly Rice Village Shopping Center.
West University Place is a well-to-do incorporated suburb of Houston located in southwestern Harris County. In the 1920s, automobiles and paved roads made it easier for people to live in the suburbs, and in the 1930s, suburban retail centers like the Village were built. (TSHA)
Zoning regulations and other constraints ensured ethnic and economic homogeneity. By the late 1930s and early 1940s, when the neighborhood was noted as the second-fastest expanding city in the country, gaps between subdivisions from the 1920s had been filled in with new houses.
Braewood, a garden suburb created in the 1920s on a network of curved streets with substantial buildings on vast lots, served as the model for the early residences in the neighborhood. By 1942, the population increased but remained at 17,000 until the 1950s. By 1948, Houston had completely encircled West University Place. (TSHA)
Historical homes, Rice University, a globally recognized academic institution, and innate charm keep West U. in high demand among prospective residents and businesses.
Rice Village Charm
Since 1938, Rice Village has expanded in size and attractiveness with quaint shops and businesses. Over time, Rice Village changed to include popular restaurants, fashion boutiques, and cutting-edge businesses. Even today, the charm is maintained by historical architecture with an eclectic mix. We get a tangible sense that this is a community of many generations reflected by its history. (Rice Village)
As you make your way down the Rice Boulevard’s promenade of shops, there you will find Rice Emergency Room between Kelvin and Kirby Drives. Our facility maintains the historic architecture of the 1940s following the trend of preservation.
